How it works
Acupuncture is a unique form of treatment that assists the body’s natural healing process by balancing Qi (pronounced chee), the vital energy that controls the workings of the main organs and systems of the body. This vital energy moves from one organ to another along pathways called meridians. Too much or too little energy in a pathway creates an imbalance that leads to physical, mental or emotional problems.
In Classical Five Element Acupuncture, any symptom-from a headache, to depression, to back pain, to indigestion-is a telling signal that there is something wrong inside. The symptom is saying that some aspect of our vital energy has broken down and is out of balance. Acupuncture treatments promote healing by restoring balance to the body, mind and spirit. Through an in-depth evaluation of a patient’s history, it can be determined where an individual’s energy imbalance lies, while looking to the person as a whole, and not just at the disease itself. This system of medicine can work for anyone with almost any health problem, disease or illness, both preventatively and curatively.
The acupuncturist seeks out and treats the cause of disease and illness.
Pulse diagnosis is one of the primary ways in which the acupuncturist determines energetic imbalances.
Because this style of acupuncture treats the whole person, patients often report improvement in health problems other than those for which they sought treatment initially.
